With fuel costs on the rise, a primary challenge of fleet management is to control fuel costs. Poor driving habits like speeding, excessive idling and improper shifting can make a vehicle burn significantly more amounts of gas than necessary.

The FleetPulse® Vehicle, Power Takeoff (PTO) & Fuel Usage Management option arms fleet managers with the information they need to correct poor driving habits by giving them the ability to focus on exceptions to defined corporate policies and to measure trends. Additionally, managers can compare the real-time fuel consumption and fuel economy information in the FleetPulse reporting system to fuel receipts or fuel card transactions and can identify instances of fuel spillage. Anomalies may indicate whether a vehicle requires tuning or is being driven too hard. Other calculations include fuel costs for the vehicle, emissions and idle time.

In many instances normal vehicle and fuel usage is eligible for fuel tax rebates. Dependant upon state or provincial regulations, fuel used for power takeoff (PTO) or off-road usage may qualify for tax rebates. Fuel used within a state, province or country may also be eligible for rebates under the terms of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA).
