FleetPulse® VIUPoint Authentication Server

The FleetPulse® Wireless Fleet Management System is comprised of three core components; the Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU), The VIUPoint Authentication Server and the OverVIU Information Manager.

The FleetPulse VIUPoint Authentication Server provides the data transfer component of the FleetPulse Wireless Fleet Management System. The VIUPoint includes a complete wireless access point installed at private or public points where fleet vehicles congregate, such as at fuel pumps, fleet lot swing gates and service bays.

Comprehensive Wireless Connectivity Options

The VIUPoint can utilize different wireless options depending on application requirements, including:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Dedicated cellular modems
  • Bluetooth to PDAs
  • Smartphones
  • Satellite

Because VIUPoint can use the unlicensed wireless spectrum – including municipal Wi-Fi networks that exist in many urban locations today – it can avoid costly airtime charges.

Data Transfer Management

The VIUPoint dynamically acquires and uploads data from the vehicle interface unit (VIU), as well as downloads programming information to the VIU. The VIUPoint, in turn, delivers the data to the OverVIU Information Manager. All changes or updates to the VIU can be managed centrally from the OverVIU, through VIUPoint. These may include programming enhancements, bug fixes or new features.

The VIUPoint is one of three key components of the overall FleetPulse System. It interacts directly with the VIU to acquire the vehicle data and with OverVIU Information Manager to analyze and present that data.
